Himachal Pradesh Hit Hard by Monsoon Rains: 31 Dead, Roads Closed, Orange Alert Issued

Heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh have claimed 31 lives so far. 4 are missing, 53 roads are closed, and damage amounts to ₹29.16 crore. An orange alert has been issued for the coming days.

Himachal Monsoon: The havoc of the monsoon continues in Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rainfall over the past few days has wreaked havoc in many parts of the state. According to data received from the State Emergency Operations Centre, 31 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents from June 20 to June 27. Furthermore, 4 people are missing and 66 have been injured.

Heavy Damage Due to Heavy Rainfall

Himachal Pradesh has suffered a total loss of ₹29.16 crore due to the rain in this one week. This loss includes roads, houses, shops, cowsheds, and drinking water schemes. The Public Works Department (PWD) alone has suffered a loss of ₹27.43 crore.

6 Houses Destroyed, 8 Damaged

So far, 6 houses have been completely destroyed across the state, while 8 houses have been partially damaged. In addition, 7 shops and 8 cowsheds have also suffered heavy losses. A total of 37 livestock and birds have been washed away in these incidents.

53 Roads Closed, Impact on Transport and Electricity

Due to heavy landslides and waterlogging in the state, 53 roads have been completely closed to traffic. This has severely affected the movement of common people. Kullu district is the most affected, with 23 roads closed.

Similarly, 16 roads in Mandi district are still closed. Water supply and electricity systems have almost collapsed in areas like Nirmand and Ani. Here, 74 transformers and 118 drinking water schemes are not working. A total of 135 electricity transformers and 147 drinking water schemes are closed across the state.

Situation in Other Districts

In Kinnaur, 33 drinking water schemes are shut down, due to which thousands of people are facing a water crisis. The Meteorological Department has advised people to exercise extreme caution in view of the situation.

Orange Alert Issued

The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh until July 3. Particularly on June 29, there is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall, due to which an orange alert has been declared in the state.

Flood Threat and Warning

A flash flood warning has been issued for Shimla and Sirmaur districts for the next 24 hours. The administration has appealed to citizens to stay away from rivers, drains, and landslide-prone areas.
