IIT Couple Hires Professional Home Manager for ₹1 Lakh/Month Amid Busy Schedules

An IIT Bombay alumnus and his IIT Kanpur graduate wife, both busy professionals, have hired a full-time home manager for ₹1 lakh monthly to handle all household responsibilities, sparking a viral debate on social media.

IIT Bombay's Aman Goyal and IIT Kanpur graduate Harshita have appointed a home manager with a monthly salary of INR 1 lakh to manage household responsibilities amidst their busy work schedules. Both stated that balancing professional life and home chores had become challenging.

Mumbai: Aman Goyal, founder and CEO of Greylabs AI, and his wife Harshita, have appointed a professional home manager to smoothly handle their daily household responsibilities, paying them a salary of INR 1 lakh per month. Both spouses are IIT alumni; Aman from IIT Bombay and Harshita from IIT Kanpur, and were consistently facing challenges with home management due to their busy work schedules.

Aman stated that as both are full-time professionals, it was difficult to balance household chores, which led them to decide on hiring a home manager. This news has gone viral on social media, where users are expressing surprise, appreciation, and various reactions to this unique initiative.

The Professional Home Manager

Aman Goyal explained that the home manager they hired oversees the entire household operations—from cooking, cleaning, repairs, bill payments, and grocery shopping to managing domestic helpers. Goyal, who lives with his parents, mentioned that it was becoming difficult to dedicate time to the house due to their busy schedules, making a full-time manager essential.

This professional manager, who previously worked for a large hotel chain, is working for a monthly salary of INR 1 lakh. According to Goyal, while this expense is significant, the value of their time and productivity is far more important.

Growing Debate on Social Media

People reacted sharply to Goyal's X post. Many users commented that spending so much on a home manager is unnecessary and a waste of money. Some also sarcastically remarked that a startup founder should use investors' money judiciously.

Goyal clarified these criticisms, stating that the home manager's salary is paid from his personal earnings, not from company funds. He wrote that he earned this money by selling his previous business for crores, which is entirely his personal right.

Arguments from Supporters

Meanwhile, many people also supported Goyal's decision. They argued that hiring a professional home manager in a city like Mumbai is an effective option for running a household, especially when the family is large and the work pressure is high.

Supporters argued that it is not wrong to hire an experienced manager at a high salary so that Goyal and his wife Harshita can both focus on their careers and startup. They believe that this also allows for more organized care for their elderly parents.
