IIT Guwahati Launches GATE 2026 Website: Application Process, Dates, and Details

IIT Guwahati has launched the website for GATE 2026. The application process will begin on August 25th, and the examination will be held in February 2026.

GATE 2026: Good news for students aspiring for higher education in the field of engineering and technology. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2026) will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) this time. The institute has launched the official website gate2026.iitg.ac.in for GATE 2026. Along with this, registration dates, exam schedule, and essential information have also been shared.

When will the application process begin?

Online applications for GATE 2026 will begin on August 25, 2025. Candidates can apply without a late fee until September 25, 2025. The last date for applying with a late fee is set as October 6, 2025.

  • Start date of application: August 25, 2025
  • Last date of application without late fee: September 25, 2025
  • Last date of application with late fee: October 6, 2025
  • Exam dates: February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026
  • Date of result declaration: March 19, 2026

Application Fee

The application fee for GATE 2026 is fixed according to the category. Applications will not be accepted without the fee. The fee has to be paid online.

General Category Candidates:

  • During the regular period: ₹1200
  • With late fee: ₹2500

SC/ST/PwD Candidates:

  • During the regular period: ₹1000
  • With late fee: ₹1500

Exam Pattern and Mode

The GATE exam is completely a Computer Based Test (CBT). It includes Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. The duration of the examination is 3 hours and the total marks are 100.

Who can apply (Eligibility Criteria)

Students who are graduating or have graduated in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, or Humanities from any recognized institute can apply for GATE 2026. Final year students are also eligible to apply.

Required Documents

IIT Guwahati will soon release the official list of documents required for the application. However, based on previous years, the estimated list of documents is as follows:

  • Passport size color photograph
  • Signature
  • Educational Certificates
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Valid photo ID proof (any one of Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID, PAN Card, Driving License, etc.)

Number of Subjects for the Exam

There will be more than 30 subjects in GATE 2026. Candidates can apply for one or two papers, but the combination of both subjects should be according to the pairing guidelines set by GATE.

Score Card and Validity

The GATE score card is valid for 3 years from the date of the examination. This score is valid not only for admission to M.Tech but also for PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) recruitments.
