The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather warning for several parts of the country as monsoon activity intensifies. According to the IMD, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and b winds are likely across 19 states over the next 24 hours. In some areas, wind speeds may reach up to 90 kmph.
The weather department has advised farmers, fishermen, travellers in hilly regions and residents living along riverbanks to remain alert. Conditions such as uprooted trees, disruptions in power supply and localized waterlogging may occur in several states.
According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon is gradually advancing into more parts of the country. Conditions remain favourable for its further progression over the coming days across several areas of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Meteorologists said active cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions, along with the influence of a western disturbance, is contributing to heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity across multiple states.
The IMD has issued warnings of heavy rainfall and storms for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Kerala.
The department has also warned of lightning strikes across several parts of eastern and northeastern India. Experts have advised people to avoid standing in open fields and under trees during adverse weather conditions.

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are likely in Delhi and surrounding areas on June 24 and 25. According to the weather department, wind speeds may range between 60 and 70 kmph.
Rain is expected to provide relief to residents who have experienced intense heat and humidity in recent days. However, b winds may affect transportation and daily activities.
Weather conditions may have a greater impact across western, central and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rainfall and b winds have been forecast for Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur and nearby areas. In some locations, wind speeds may reach between 80 and 90 kmph. Agricultural experts have advised farmers to exercise caution in harvesting and storage-related activities.
Several districts of Bihar are expected to witness heavy rainfall and b winds between June 24 and 27. The weather department has urged special vigilance in districts including Gaya, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Kishanganj, Supaul and Madhubani.
In Jharkhand, heavy rainfall and storms are likely in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and Deoghar. Wind speeds in these areas may reach 70 to 75 kmph.
Heavy rainfall may lead to landslides and road blockages in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The IMD has advised special monitoring in Dehradun, Nainital, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Kangra, Kullu, Chamba and Srinagar regions.
Travellers and tourists have been advised to check the latest weather updates before undertaking journeys to hilly areas.
Rainfall and b wind alerts have been issued for several districts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Udaipur, Ajmer and Bharatpur. Weather activity is also expected to remain active in parts of Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal, Ujjain, Dhar, Vidisha and Mandsaur.
In northeastern states, particularly Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura, heavy rainfall accompanied by b winds is expected. Waterlogging may occur in low-lying areas due to persistent rainfall.
