India's Squad Announced for Asia Cup 2025: Gill Named Vice-Captain, Key Players Omitted

The 15-member Indian cricket team for the Asia Cup 2025 was announced on Tuesday. A meeting was held at the BCCI headquarters to select the team, although the meeting started slightly late due to rain.

Sports News: The Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025 was announced on Tuesday. Following a meeting at the BCCI headquarters, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Captain Suryakumar Yadav announced the team at a press conference. The meeting was initially delayed due to rain, but the names of the 15 players for the Indian team were subsequently released.

Shubman Gill Appointed Vice-Captain

Shubman Gill has been entrusted with the responsibility of vice-captain in the Indian team. Under his leadership, a good balance of youth and experienced players will be seen in the team. In addition, Rinku Singh has been given a place in the team despite not performing well in the IPL. Jasprit Bumrah has also been included in the team.

Bumrah played three Test matches on the England tour and had already made it clear that he was available for the Asia Cup. His presence will prove crucial for the team.

Veteran Players Left Out of the Team

Along with the announcement of the Indian team, many veteran players were left heartbroken. Players who did not get a place in the team include Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj, Shreyas Iyer, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Ajit Agarkar said, "It is unfortunate that Shreyas Iyer is out of the team. It is not his fault, but not ours either. He will have to wait for his chance."

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been kept on standby, while Rishabh Pant's injury has prevented him from being included in the team. Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, who made a splash in the Test series against England, has also not been included in the Asia Cup team. In addition, the absence of spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant from the team has surprised fans.

The 15-member team maintains a balance of batsmen, bowlers, and all-rounders. Captain Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team, and Shubman Gill will be his vice-captain. The pace attack includes Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and other bowlers. At the same time, some new names have been given a chance in the spin department.
