India's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has arrived in Indonesia for a six-day official visit. This visit is considered a significant step towards further strengthening the growing bilateral defence cooperation between India and Indonesia.
New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has embarked on a six-day visit with the objective of further strengthening bilateral defence cooperation between India and Indonesia. During this visit, he will meet Indonesia's Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin in Jakarta and hold extensive talks with his Indonesian counterpart, General Agus Subiyanto.
The main objective of this visit is to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and explore new opportunities for cooperation in the defence sector. It is noteworthy that Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim-majority country, and it has long-standing historical, cultural, and maritime ties with India.
Objective of the Visit
The primary objective of this visit is to elevate the defence partnership between India and Indonesia to a comprehensive strategic level. Several agreements already exist between the two countries concerning maritime security, defence production, counter-terrorism operations, and strategic dialogue. General Chauhan's visit will further strengthen the possibilities for the implementation and expansion of these agreements.
During his visit, General Anil Chauhan met Indonesia's Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin in Jakarta. Additionally, he held extensive discussions with his Indonesian counterpart, General Agus Subiyanto. Talks focused on advancing bilateral defence relations between the two countries, maintaining regional stability, and a shared security perspective in the Indo-Pacific region.
The CDS is also scheduled to meet senior military officials, including the chiefs of the Indonesian Army, Navy, and Air Force. This dialogue will not only deepen the strategic partnership but also encourage joint exercises, training, and technical cooperation between the armed forces of both nations.
Focus on Defence Industry Cooperation
During his visit, General Chauhan will also tour the cities of Bandung and Surabaya, where he will inspect major defence industry establishments and shipyards. The objective of these visits is to strengthen defence production and technical partnership. India is working towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the 'Make in India' initiative, and this cooperation with Indonesia can prove beneficial for industries in both countries.
