India and England Draw Thrilling Fourth Test Match in 2025 Series

The fourth Test match between India and England ended in a draw after a thrilling series of ups and downs. After losing the toss and batting first, the Indian team scored 358 runs in the first innings, thanks to half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and Rishabh Pant.

India vs England Test Match 2025: The fourth match of the five-match Test series between India and England witnessed a thrilling turnaround. After England's huge lead in the first innings, it seemed India might face an innings defeat, but brilliant centuries from Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar pulled India out of trouble and ensured the match ended in a draw. England now leads the series 2-1, and the final Test will be played at The Oval from July 31st.

India's First Innings: Yashasvi, Sudarshan, and Pant Provide a Strong Start

After losing the toss and batting first, the Indian team scored 358 runs in the first innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal (58), Sai Sudharsan (61), and Rishabh Pant (54) played crucial half-centuries in this score. The opening pair of Yashasvi and KL Rahul provided a steady start. However, Rahul was dismissed for 46 off Chris Woakes' bowling, and Yashasvi was sent back to the pavilion by Liam Dawson.

Sai Sudharsan scored his first Test half-century, making 61 runs off 151 balls. Shubman Gill (12) and Shardul Thakur (7) returned to the pavilion quickly. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant displayed excellent resilience despite a fractured thumb, scoring 54 runs. For England, Ben Stokes took five wickets, Jofra Archer took three, while Woakes and Dawson took one wicket each.

England's First Innings: Root and Stokes' Centuries, a Huge Score of 669 Runs

England thoroughly dismantled the Indian bowling attack in their first innings, scoring 669 runs for 10 wickets. During this innings, England benefited from brilliant innings by Joe Root (150) and Ben Stokes (141). Initially, Zak Crawley (84) and Ben Duckett (94) put India on the back foot with a 166-run partnership for the first wicket. Root and Ollie Pope forged a 144-run partnership for the third wicket. Pope was dismissed after scoring 71 runs.

Ben Stokes scored 141 runs off 198 balls, including 11 fours and 3 sixes. Joe Root scored his 38th Test century during this innings and surpassed Ricky Ponting to become the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket. For India, Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets, while Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each. Anshul Kamboj and Mohammed Siraj took one wicket each.

India's Second Innings: Gill-Jadeja-Sundar Magic After Early Setbacks

After trailing by 311 runs, India started their second innings, but the start was very poor. Chris Woakes sent Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan back to the pavilion without scoring. At that time, the score was 0 runs for 2 wickets. The team was under pressure, but Shubman Gill and KL Rahul steadied the innings with a 188-run partnership off 421 balls. Rahul was dismissed for 90 off 230 balls, LBW to Ben Stokes.

Gill played a captain's innings of 103 runs off 238 balls. This was his 9th century in Test cricket and the fourth in the current series, equaling Don Bradman's record of scoring four centuries as captain in a series.

Sundar and Jadeja's 200+ Run Partnership

After Gill's dismissal, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja took complete control of the innings. The pair forged an unbeaten 203-run partnership off 334 balls. Jadeja completed his fifth Test century off 182 balls, and Sundar scored his first Test century off 206 balls. Both remained unbeaten till the end, scoring 107 and 101 runs respectively, and successfully secured a draw for the match. In England's second innings, Woakes took two wickets, while Archer and Stokes took one wicket each.

After this draw, England has a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Now, the fifth and decisive Test will be played at The Oval in London from July 31st. If India manages to win that match, the series will be leveled 2-2.
