Weather Forecast: Northern India is currently under the grip of scorching heat. States like Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan are experiencing intense sun. Stepping outside during the afternoon has become risky. Heatwave conditions and temperatures reaching 44 degrees Celsius are disrupting daily life. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has offered a glimmer of hope. A change in weather is expected from June 13th, potentially bringing some relief.
Delhi Basking in 'Red' Heat
The capital, Delhi, is experiencing temperatures between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius. The sun is so intense that even a short walk outdoors causes a burning sensation on the skin. The hot winds feel like they are cutting through the body. The steadily rising temperatures have made conditions particularly difficult for children, the elderly, and the sick.
According to the IMD, Delhi is expected to experience b winds and light rain with thunder and lightning on June 13th. Winds could reach speeds of 40-50 km/hour. This might lead to a slight decrease in the maximum temperature. However, the meteorological department has issued an orange alert, urging people to exercise caution.
UP, Haryana, and Punjab Also Severely Affected
Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana are also facing a severe heatwave. Temperatures in cities like Lucknow, Amritsar, Rohtak, and Karnal have crossed 44 degrees Celsius. Heatwaves and dry, hot winds are impacting daily life. The situation is particularly challenging for agricultural laborers, daily wage earners, and street vendors.
Rajasthan's Desert Turns into an 'Oven'
The heat in Rajasthan is at its peak. Temperatures in areas like Bikaner, Churu, Sri Ganganagar, and Jodhpur have reached 46 degrees Celsius. Streets become deserted in the afternoon, and even markets see reduced activity. The heatwave is so intense that people avoid going outdoors during the day.
Uttarakhand Receives Some Relief from Rainfall
Amidst the heatwave gripping North India, light to moderate rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand has provided some relief. On June 12th, areas like Nainital, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh experienced rainfall, leading to a decrease in temperature. The meteorological department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in these districts on June 13th. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected until June 17th.
Relief Expected After June 13th
According to the meteorological department, a change in weather is expected to begin from the night of June 13th. On June 14th, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 41 degrees, and the minimum around 28 degrees. From June 15th to 18th, partly cloudy skies are anticipated, with light rain in some areas. This is expected to gradually lower temperatures.
