Rain brought an early end to play on the third day of the second and final Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. At stumps, Sri Lanka had scored 265 for 8 in 83.4 overs in its first innings.
Sri Lanka need 238 more runs to reach India’s first-innings total and 39 more runs to avoid the follow-on. India had declared their first innings at 503 for 9.
Sonal Dinusha was unbeaten on 85 for Sri Lanka at stumps. Lahiru Kumara was also at the crease on 8. Dinusha remained at the crease as Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals.

Pasindu Sooriyabandara scored 80 for Sri Lanka. He batted alongside Dinusha before his dismissal, while India continued to take wickets at regular intervals.
Sri Lanka’s middle and lower order continued batting after the team faced the possibility of being bowled out early.
For India, Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar took three wickets each. Both bowlers accounted for wickets as Sri Lanka reached 265 for 8 before rain brought the third day to an early close.
Sri Lanka are 238 runs behind India’s first-innings score and require 39 more runs to avoid the follow-on. If Sri Lanka are bowled out before reaching 304, India will have the option of enforcing the follow-on.
