India Women's Cricket Team Announced for ODI World Cup 2025: Renuka Singh Returns, Shafali Verma Misses Out

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian women's cricket team for the Women's ODI World Cup 2025 on Tuesday. Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the team, while Smriti Mandhana will be the vice-captain. This time, the team will enter the field with the major goal of winning the title for the first time.

Some significant changes have also been observed in this announcement. 

Fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur, having regained fitness, has returned to the team after being out for some time due to injury or other reasons. Meanwhile, young wicketkeeper-batter Shafali Verma has not been included in the team this time.

Major Changes and Selections in the Team

Several important changes were observed in this announcement by the BCCI. Renuka Singh Thakur has made a comeback to the team. Shafali Verma, who had performed brilliantly in the last few tournaments, is not in the team this time. A balance of experienced and young players has been maintained in the team. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that the team's focus is only on winning and all the players will enter the field with full preparation.

Notably, Renuka Singh's return is considered a major relief for the Indian team, as her fast bowling and experience will strengthen the team's strategy.

Women's ODI World Cup 2025 Organization

This year's Women's ODI World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka. This event is taking place in India after 12 years. The tournament will begin on September 30 and the final match will be played on November 2. The matches will be held in five major cities:

  • Bangalore – M. Chinnaswamy Stadium
  • Guwahati – ACA Stadium
  • Indore – Holkar Stadium
  • Visakhapatnam – ACA-VDCA Stadium
  • Colombo – R. Premadasa Stadium

The first semi-final will be held on October 29 in Guwahati or Colombo. The second semi-final will be held on October 30 in Bangalore. Both teams reaching the final match will get two days to prepare. The purpose of this event is not only to promote sports, but also to create a global platform for women's cricket.

Indian Team's Preparation and Strategy

After the team selection, the Indian players are now fully focused on fitness and technical preparation. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that the game will be promoted with balance and discipline in the team. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana said that the team is a mixture of young and experienced players, which will perform better in challenging matches.

The coaching staff has paid special attention to the players' strength, fitness, and mental preparation. The team's goal is not limited to just good performance; the Indian team will enter with a firm determination to win the World Cup title.
