In Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati accused SP and Congress of having an anti-Dalit stance. She stated that BSP's objective is to protect the rights of Dalits, tribals, and backward classes, and not to engage in vote bank politics.
Uttar Pradesh: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress of discriminating against the Dalit community. She stated that these political parties have, from time to time, deceived the public due to their narrow vote bank politics.
In a long post on her social media account X, Mayawati stated that SP's and Congress's attitude towards the missionary self-respect and dignity movement, championed by BSP founders Kanshi Ram and Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar for the rights of Dalits, tribals, and backward classes, has always been casteist and biased and hostile.
Sharp Taunt on SP-Congress Politics
Mayawati alleged that SP consistently tried to weaken Manyavar Kanshi Ram's movement while he was alive. She cited an example, stating that when the BSP government granted Kasganj district headquarters status on April 17, 2008, it named it Kanshi Ram Nagar. However, the SP government changed this name due to casteist ideology and political malice. Mayawati asserted that such steps clearly demonstrate an anti-Dalit and narrow-minded politics.
Ignoring BSP's Contributions
Mayawati stated that the BSP government made efforts to empower the Bahujan community to become the ruling class. Kanshi Ram's contribution to forming the BSP government in UP and establishing institutions like education, health, universities, and hospitals was unparalleled. However, the SP government changed the names of most of these institutions. She called this a clear indication of a deeply anti-Dalit agenda and character. Furthermore, state mourning was not declared in UP upon Kanshi Ram's demise, even though an atmosphere of sorrow prevailed across the country. Despite being at the center, the Congress did not declare national mourning for his passing.
Elections and Vote Bank Politics
Mayawati stated that SP and Congress periodically remember Kanshi Ram for narrow political gains and electoral self-interest. According to her, this is merely a pretense and a deception. She appealed to the public to be vigilant about the conduct, character, and policies of such parties. Mayawati emphasized that the public should focus on development, social justice, and equality, rather than voting solely on the basis of caste and religion.
Opposition on the Upcoming Parinirvan Diwas
Mayawati also took a jibe at the events planned for Kanshi Ram's Parinirvan Diwas on the upcoming October 9. She stated that the SP chief's announcement appears to be mere pretense and showmanship. According to her, this action embodies the politics of "Ram in the mouth, dagger in the side" (a Hindi idiom meaning hypocrisy). She advised the public to be cautious and reiterated that BSP's objective has always been to secure the rights of Dalits and backward classes.
