July 2025 proved to be an excellent month for Mahindra & Mahindra. The company registered impressive growth during this period. Mahindra's total sales in July increased by 26 percent to 83,691 units, compared to 66,444 units in July 2024. The company also performed well in the SUV segment. In July, Mahindra sold 49,871 SUVs in the domestic market, compared to 41,623 in the same month last year. This signifies a 20 percent increase in SUV sales.
MG Motor's Sales Grew Rapidly
JSW MG Motor India also showcased a b performance in July. The company's sales witnessed a 46 percent increase. In July 2025, MG sold 6,678 vehicles, compared to 4,575 units in the same month last year. This growth for MG is largely attributed to its electric and premium SUV segments.
Maruti Suzuki Maintained its Hold
Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car manufacturer, also showed growth in July 2025, although it was less pronounced compared to other companies. The company's sales increased by 3 percent to 180,526 units. In July 2024, the company had sold 175,041 vehicles.
However, Maruti's sales of small cars witnessed a decline. Sales of small cars like Alto and S-Presso decreased to 6,822 units, compared to 9,960 units last year. Meanwhile, the compact car segment, which includes vehicles like Baleno, Dzire, Ignis, and Swift, saw its sales increase from 58,682 units to 65,667 units.
Toyota Also Showed Strength
Toyota Kirloskar Motor also maintained a good hold on sales in July. The company registered a 3 percent year-on-year increase this time. In July 2025, Toyota's sales were 32,575 units, compared to 31,656 units in July 2024. The b hold of the company's large vehicles like Innova, Fortuner, and Hilux contributed to this growth.
July 2025 wasn't particularly b for Tata Motors. The company's total sales decreased by 4 percent to 69,131 units, compared to 71,996 units in July of the previous year.
The decline was even more pronounced in the domestic market. Domestic sales decreased by 12 percent to 39,521 units, compared to 44,725 units in July 2024. Tata's passenger car sales also saw an 11 percent decline. In July 2025, the company sold 40,175 vehicles, compared to 44,954 units in the same month last year.
Kia India's Demand Increased
Hyundai's subsidiary company, Kia India, however, performed well. In July 2025, the company's sales increased by 8 percent to 22,135 units. In July last year, Kia sold 20,507 vehicles.
Kia maintained its growth due to the b demand for models like Seltos, Sonet, and Carens. Furthermore, the company's strategy of continuously focusing on new features and technology is attracting customers.
Hyundai's Total Sales Also Decreased
Korean automobile company Hyundai Motor India also experienced a decline in sales this July. The company's total sales decreased by 7 percent to 60,073 units. In July 2024, the company had sold 64,563 vehicles.
This decline is attributed to increased competition in both the SUV and sedan segments for Hyundai. Additionally, the sluggish sales of some older models have impacted the company's overall figures.
Customers Leaning Towards SUVs
The July auto sales data clearly indicates that the SUV segment is growing rapidly in India. The demand for SUV vehicles from companies like Mahindra, Maruti, and Kia remains consistently high. In particular, the sales of mid-size SUVs and compact SUVs have driven the market.
Competition in the auto sector has intensified. While new companies like MG and Kia are growing rapidly, traditional companies need to update their models and adopt strategies to suit changing customer preferences.
Companies' Eyes Fixed on the Festive Season
After the July figures, all companies are now focused on the upcoming festive season. The tradition of vehicle purchases in India is b during major festive occasions like Diwali and Dussehra. It is therefore expected that sales will increase further in the coming months.
