Indian Stock Market Extends Gains for Fifth Straight Session Driven by IT and Pharma Rally

The stock market closed with gains for the fifth consecutive session, with the Nifty crossing 24,800. IT, Pharma, and FMCG stocks saw buying interest, while Realty, Oil & Gas, and PSE indices closed lower. Infosys, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra shares showed an uptrend, whereas stocks like Trent and Paytm remained weak.

Stock Market Closing: On September 9, the Indian stock market closed with gains for the fifth consecutive session. The Sensex rose by 314 points to close at 81,101, and the Nifty gained 95 points to end at 24,869. Shares of the IT sector witnessed a b rally, driven by news of Infosys's buyback. Midcap and Smallcap indices also trended higher, while Realty, Oil & Gas, and PSE sectors saw a decline. Investors bought shares of Maruti, Eicher Motors, and Kotak Mahindra Bank, while new-age stocks like Trent and Paytm remained weak.

Mixed Performance in the Market

On Tuesday, the Sensex closed at 81,101, with a gain of 314 points. The Nifty registered a rise of 95 points, closing at 24,869. The Nifty Bank saw a marginal gain, closing at 54,216 with a jump of 29 points. Investors showed buying interest during the Nifty weekly expiry session, and the Midcap index closed at 57,464, up by 103 points.

Sharp Rally in the IT Sector

There was significant buying in the IT sector today. Following the news of Infosys's buyback, its share price surged by 5% to close at ₹1,504. Wipro, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, and TCS recorded gains of 2-3%. The Nifty IT index closed with a 3% increase.

Performance of Other Major Sectors

FMCG and Pharma sectors also saw buying interest today. Shares of Dr. Reddy's and Dabur showed an upward trend. Conversely, Realty, Oil & Gas, and PSE indices experienced a decline. In the Auto sector, Maruti Suzuki and Eicher Motors saw a rise of approximately 1%.

Top Gainers Today

The prominent top gainers today included Infosys, Dr. Reddy's, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, and HCL Tech. Infosys registered a gain of ₹71.40. Dr. Reddy's showed a profit of ₹40.70. Wipro closed with a gain of ₹6.63, Tech Mahindra ₹37.50, and HCL Tech ₹24.10.

Top Losers Today

The stocks that saw the most significant decline today were Trent, Eternal, Jio Financial, NTPC, and Titan Company. Trent's share closed at ₹5,218, down by ₹97. Eternal saw a decline of ₹3.95, Jio Financial ₹3.15, NTPC ₹2.60, and Titan Company ₹27.90.

NSE Trading Statistics

A total of 3,104 shares were traded on the NSE today. Out of these, 1,467 shares closed with gains, while 1,526 shares closed with losses, and 111 shares remained unchanged.
