Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Friday for the second consecutive trading session, but the initial gains were not sustained. The Sensex opened at 77,701.07, up from Thursday’s close of 77,537.72, while the Nifty rose from its previous close of 24,231.85 to open at 24,284.05.
The Sensex gained around 100 points in early trade before slipping to a gain of about 50 points, while the Nifty traded around 24,250. The movement came a day after both benchmark indices ended higher in the previous trading session.
At around 9:45 am, the Sensex was trading at 77,601.52, up 63.80 points or 0.08 percent. The Nifty was at 24,245.70, higher by 13.85 points or 0.06 percent.
The Sensex’s 30 constituent stocks saw 21 shares trading higher and nine lower during early trade.

Sun Pharma and Eternal were among the top performers, each gaining around 0.73 percent. Kotak Bank rose about 0.46 percent, Adani Ports gained 0.42 percent, Titan advanced 0.31 percent and Trent rose around 0.30 percent. Tech Mahindra, NTPC and Power Grid also traded higher in early dealings.
Infosys declined around 0.73 percent in early trade, while TCS was down about 0.45 percent. Reliance Industries fell around 0.45 percent, HCL Tech declined 0.39 percent and Axis Bank slipped 0.12 percent.
Bajaj Finance also traded under marginal pressure. Selling in IT stocks accompanied the movement in the benchmark indices after the initial gains.
