The Indian stock market opened with a modest gain on Tuesday, supported by positive signals from global markets and selective buying after declines in recent trading sessions. Major indices remained in the green, although the initial gains were limited as investors focused on selected stocks rather than making large bets.
In early trade, the Sensex gained around 53 points to reach around 72,436, while the Nifty was trading near 22,577. Buying was relatively ber, with around 1,424 stocks advancing and 821 declining. Around 180 stocks remained unchanged.
The BSE Sensex was trading 53.78 points, or 0.07%, higher at 72,436.25, while the NSE Nifty rose 21.70 points, or 0.10%, to 22,577.45.
The market had remained under pressure in recent trading sessions. Tuesday's early gains came as investors bought select stocks. However, according to market experts, volatility could continue based on global cues, foreign investor activity and the performance of major companies.

In sectoral trading, banking and realty stocks saw relatively ber buying in the early session on Tuesday. The Nifty Bank rose 0.42% to 54,943.60, while the Nifty Realty Index gained 0.32%.
The Nifty Energy index advanced 0.30%, Nifty FMCG gained 0.13%, Nifty PSU Bank rose 0.12% and Nifty IT increased 0.04%.
Not all sectors traded in positive territory. The Nifty Pharma index declined 0.07%, Nifty Services fell 0.02% and Nifty Infra slipped 0.01%.
Among major Nifty stocks, Trent recorded the highest gain. The company's stock jumped around 10% in early trade to reach Rs 2,838, making it the top gainer on the index.
Kotak Mahindra Bank gained 3.67%. BSE rose 2.14%, Hindustan Unilever advanced 1.59%, Axis Bank gained 1.19% and Hindalco rose 0.68%.
Buying in banking stocks contributed to the market's early gains, with stocks such as Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank among those attracting investor attention.
On the other hand, some major stocks faced selling pressure. Apollo Hospitals declined around 1.89%, making it one of the weakest-performing stocks. Max Healthcare fell 1.68%.
Cipla declined 0.76%, Tech Mahindra fell 0.65%, Infosys slipped 0.56%, Dr. Reddy's declined 0.51% and Maruti Suzuki was down 0.35%.
