Indian Stock Market Opens Lower on Oct 8, 2025; Sensex, Nifty Decline, Titan Soars

On October 8, 2025, the domestic stock market opened in the red, experiencing a decline. The BSE Sensex opened at 81,899.51 with a fall of 27.24 points, and the Nifty opened at 25,079.75 with a decrease of 28.55 points. Out of 50 companies in the Nifty 50, shares of 33 companies declined, while Titan's shares recorded the highest gain of 2.97%.

Share Market Opening: On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the Indian stock market began on a weak note. The BSE Sensex opened at 81,899.51 with a fall of 27.24 points or 0.03%, while the NSE Nifty started trading at 25,079.75 with a decrease of 28.55 points or 0.11%. Out of 50 companies in the Nifty, shares of 33 remained in the red. Titan was the biggest gainer in the Sensex, registering a 2.97% rise, while Sun Pharma saw the highest decline of 0.56%.

Sensex and Nifty Both Start with a Decline

On Wednesday, the Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened at 81,899.51 points, down by 27.24 points or 0.03 percent. Similarly, the Nifty 50 index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also began trading at 25,079.75 points, falling by 28.55 points or 0.11 percent.

On the previous trading day, Tuesday, the Sensex had registered a gain of 93.83 points and closed at 81,883.95 points. The Nifty had also concluded trading with a slight increase at 25,085.30 points. However, today's weak market opening has slightly dampened investor sentiment.

Shares of 33 out of 50 Nifty Companies in the Red

In morning trade today, shares of 33 out of 50 Nifty companies opened with a decline. Only 16 companies showed gains, while 1 company's share opened unchanged. Meanwhile, out of 30 Sensex companies, shares of 14 opened in the green, and 16 opened in the red.

In early trading, Titan Company shares opened with the highest gain of 2.97 percent. Sun Pharma shares, on the other hand, witnessed the biggest decline, opening 0.56 percent lower.

Pressure on Sensex Blue-Chip Companies

Shares of several major companies included in the Sensex saw pressure in the initial hours. Tata Steel shares opened down by 0.61 percent. Bajaj Finance declined by 0.31 percent, Bharti Airtel by 0.30 percent, Asian Paints by 0.30 percent, TCS by 0.27 percent, and Infosys by 0.26 percent.

Similarly, shares of Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra opened down by 0.19 percent. BEL, SBI, PowerGrid, and Kotak Mahindra Bank also witnessed losses of around 0.10 percent. Axis Bank shares were trading 0.08 percent lower.

Slight Gains in Shares of Some Companies

However, amidst the market decline, slight gains were observed in a few selected stocks. Shares of L&T, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Adani Ports, and Hindustan Unilever opened with marginal gains in early trade.

Trent's shares also appeared almost stable in the initial hours. Meanwhile, NTPC and Bajaj Finserv shares saw very slight declines.

Sector-wise Situation

Sector-wise, slight declines were observed in the IT, Auto, Pharma, and FMCG sectors. Banking and Metal sector shares also remained weak. Conversely, some buying interest was seen in Real Estate and Power sector shares.

According to investors, mixed signals from global markets and selling by foreign investors exerted pressure on the market. The weakening of the Rupee against the Dollar and rising crude oil prices also influenced market sentiment.
