Indian Stock Market Opens Strong: Sensex Climbs 257 Points, Nifty Rises 99

The domestic stock market opened in the green on Wednesday. The Sensex opened 256.58 points higher at 80,492.17 and the Nifty opened 98.80 points higher at 24,586.20. Of the 30 companies on the Sensex, 23 saw gains, while 41 of the 50 companies on the Nifty were up. Powergrid recorded the highest gain of 1%, while Maruti Suzuki fell by 0.28%.

Share Market: On August 13, 2025, the domestic stock market started trading on a b note. The BSE Sensex opened at 80,492.17 with a gain of 256.58 points (0.32%), and the NSE Nifty opened 98.80 points (0.40%) higher at 24,586.20. Of the 30 companies on the Sensex, 23 and 41 of the 50 companies on the Nifty traded in the green. Powergrid recorded the highest gain of 1%, while Maruti Suzuki opened with a decline of 0.28%. The market opened in the red on Tuesday, but today showed a positive trend in early trading.

Sensex up by 257 points

The BSE Sensex today started trading at 80,492.17, with a gain of 256.58 points, or 0.32 percent. This increase was due to positive domestic and global cues. After a slight decline on Tuesday, the market has once again rebounded.

Nifty climbs 99 points

The National Stock Exchange's Nifty 50 index also opened on Wednesday with a gain of 98.80 points, or 0.40 percent, at 24,586.20. In early trading, the Nifty performed well and most stocks appeared to be in the green.

Shares of most Sensex companies in the green

On Wednesday morning, shares of 23 out of 30 companies on the Sensex started trading with gains. Only 2 companies' shares were in the red, while shares of 5 companies opened without any change.

The highest gain was seen in Powergrid, which opened 1.00 percent higher. This was followed by Sunpharma at 0.96 percent, Bajaj Finserv at 0.83 percent, Kotak Mahindra Bank at 0.76 percent, and HCL Tech at 0.69 percent.

Gains were also seen in heavyweight stocks like Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Tata Motors, SBI, Infosys, and Adani Ports.

Nifty 50's 41 shares rise

Out of the 50 companies on the Nifty 50 index, shares of 41 companies started trading with gains. Only 1 company's share declined, and shares of 8 companies remained stable. This indicates that there is currently a buying atmosphere in the market.

Decline in some shares

Even in this bullish environment, shares of some companies saw a decline. Maruti Suzuki, included in the Sensex, opened 0.28 percent lower, while Trent's shares saw a decline of 0.21 percent. Apart from this, shares of Titan, NTPC, ICICI Bank, Eternal, and Asian Paints opened without any change.

Mixed trend on Tuesday

The market started weakly on Tuesday. The Sensex opened 95.57 points or 0.12 percent lower at 80,508.51, while the Nifty fell by 21.70 points to 24,563.35. On Monday, however, the market started in the green, but slight selling was seen the next day.

Sector-wise performance

In today's early session, strength was seen in the banking, IT, auto, and pharma sectors. Banking stocks like HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, SBI, and ICICI Bank showed a positive trend. In the IT sector, HCL Tech, Infosys, and TCS recorded slight to moderate gains.

In the pharma sector, Sunpharma made a better start, while in the auto sector, shares of Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors were in the green.
