Indian Stock Markets Closed on June 26 for Muharram Trading to Resume on June 29

suspended across equities, derivatives, currency and SLB segments on the BSE and NSE. MCX operated only its evening session, while NCDEX remained closed. Regular equity market trading will resume on June 29.

Indian equity markets remained closed on Friday, June 26, on account of Muharram, preventing investors and traders from carrying out transactions in the domestic stock market.

Trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) remained suspended across all major segments, including equities, equity derivatives and the Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segment. Regular trading will resume on Monday, June 29, following the weekend.

Trading holidays in the Indian stock market are scheduled in accordance with the annual trading calendar issued by the exchanges. Holidays declared on religious and national occasions are significant for investors and market participants in planning their trading and investment activities.

Muharram, an important religious observance in Islam, is marked in India as a public holiday. As a result, no trading activity took place on the BSE or NSE during the day.

The holiday applies not only to the cash market but also to Futures and Options (F&O), equity derivatives, the currency segment and the Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segment.

Following the market holiday and the weekend, Indian equity markets will reopen during regular trading hours on Monday, June 29. Investors and traders will be able to resume equity transactions, derivatives trading and other market activities from that day. Those who had planned trades or investments for Friday will have to wait until the next trading session.

Despite the equity market holiday, commodity exchanges operated under a separate schedule. The morning trading session on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) remained closed, while the evening session was scheduled to operate from 5:00 pm to 11:55 pm, allowing trading in bullion, energy and metal commodities.

The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) remained closed throughout the day. No trading was available in agricultural commodities.

Market holidays extend beyond the suspension of trading activity, providing investors with time to review global markets, economic developments and corporate announcements. Developments in international markets during such periods may influence Indian markets on the next trading day.

Investors are advised to remain informed about scheduled market holidays and plan their trading and investment activities accordingly. Following the Muharram holiday and the weekend, Indian equity markets will reopen on Monday, June 29. The next scheduled market holiday will be on September 14 on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. According to the annual holiday calendar issued by the exchanges, all major trading segments on the BSE and NSE will remain closed on that day.
