A rat bit a software engineer at Indore's Devi Ahilya Airport. Action was taken against the duty doctor for insensitivity, the hospital was issued a notice, and the pest control company was fined, highlighting the need for improved safety and hygiene.
Indore: A shocking incident occurred at Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport in Indore, the country's cleanest city. A 33-year-old software engineer, Arun Modi, who was on his way to Bengaluru, had a rat suddenly enter his trousers and bite him. Following the incident, due to the insensitivity of the medical staff present at the airport, he could not receive timely treatment and had to seek medical care in Bengaluru. After this event, the airport management took strict action against the doctor and pest control agencies.
Rat Bites Passenger at Indore Airport
Arun Modi and his wife were waiting for their flight, sitting on a recliner in the Indore Airport terminal. Suddenly, a rat entered his trousers and bit him behind the knee. This incident was very frightening and unexpected. Arun Modi's wife was also with him at the time and stated that the medical staff present at the scene were not immediately available to help.
This unexpected incident raised questions about the safety and hygiene measures of the airport administration. The airport administration, responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment for passengers, had to take immediate steps in this matter.
Airport Takes Action on Doctor's Negligence
The doctor present at the airport did not provide timely treatment to the passenger, due to which Arun Modi had to travel to Bengaluru for treatment. Airport Director V.K. Seth clarified that this action was taken due to the lack of sensitivity of the doctor on duty. Although the doctor's behavior was not rude, the inability to provide timely assistance to passengers was considered a serious matter.
The doctor was immediately removed, and the airport management instructed the agency providing medical services to ensure that trained and empathetic doctors are deployed in such cases in the future. This step was an attempt to ensure that passengers receive necessary medical facilities in a timely manner.
Fines and Warnings for Pest Control Agencies
This incident also made it clear that there were shortcomings in the airport's pest control system. Taking action against the pest control and cleaning agencies, the airport management imposed a fine of ₹2,000 on the pest control company and ₹500 on the cleaning agency. Additionally, show-cause notices were issued to the agencies.
From now on, pest control work at the airport will be carried out every alternate day. This measure will ensure that a safe and clean environment is always available for passengers and airport staff. The airport management clarified that no negligence will be tolerated in the future.
