A major accident was averted in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday when a bus carrying Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel skidded off the road due to heavy rain and fell into the Sindh River. The accident occurred in the Kullan area of Ganderbal. Fortunately, all the personnel were safely rescued in time. Panic gripped the area after the incident, and the administration and security forces immediately launched relief and rescue operations.
Weather and Slippery Conditions Behind the Accident
According to officials, the accident may have been caused by heavy rain and slippery road conditions. At the time of the accident, the bus was passing through the area carrying ITBP personnel. After suddenly losing control, the bus went straight into the river. As soon as the incident was reported, the district administration, police, and rescue teams reached the spot and launched an intensive rescue operation.
During the rescue operation, the personnel were safely evacuated from the bus submerged in the river. An officer informed that the exact number of personnel on board the bus is not yet confirmed. However, no reports of any missing personnel have been received so far. As a precaution, a search operation is being conducted around the river to avert any potential danger.
Driver Injured
The driver sustained injuries in the bus accident and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. The good news is that the personnel did not suffer any serious injuries. Rescue teams reached the bus immediately after the accident and evacuated the personnel.
A video of the incident has also surfaced, showing rescuers going inside the bus and pulling people out. However, some weapons of the personnel are still missing, and the search for them is ongoing.
Administration Launches Investigation
The administration has launched an investigation to ascertain the causes of the accident. It is currently believed that the harsh weather and slippery roads led to the accident. Efforts are also underway to remove the bus from the river.
This incident has once again demonstrated the challenges faced by security forces working in difficult terrains. The comforting thing is that there were no casualties and all the personnel are safe.
