A wheat diversion case linked to the Public Distribution System (PDS) has been reported in Jaipur, where 1,790 quintals of government wheat, valued at approximately Rs 53 lakh, were allegedly sold in the open market instead of being delivered to ration shops.
The case involves the diversion of 1,790 quintals of government wheat allocated under the PDS in Jaipur. The consignment, intended for distribution through 34 ration shops across areas including Chomu, Chaksu, Amer, Bassi, and Jhotwara, was allegedly sold in the open market instead of being delivered to beneficiaries.
Departmental findings indicate that the wheat was transported through 34 trucks but did not reach the designated ration outlets. The transport firm assigned to deliver the wheat from government warehouses has been held responsible for the diversion.
The irregularity came to light following complaints from ration shop operators who reported non-receipt of wheat supplies. A vigilance inquiry subsequently revealed the diversion.
Investigators found that the transport firm allegedly attempted to conceal the discrepancy by misreporting allocations. The firm recorded the March 2026 quota as part of February distribution records. Specifically, 1,311 quintals allocated for March were shown as distributed in February to mask the shortfall.

An FIR has been registered at Sanganer Sadar police station based on a complaint filed by Food Department Enforcement Officer Nishant Pancholi. According to police, Vinod Kumar Sharma, operator of the transport firm, has been booked on charges of embezzlement and black marketing.
Authorities are preparing to recover approximately Rs 53 lakh from the firm. A detailed investigation is ongoing to identify other individuals potentially involved in the case.
Preliminary findings indicate that small quantities of wheat were allegedly siphoned off from each truck to avoid detection of a large-scale shortage. This method reportedly enabled the diversion to continue over a period before complaints led to its exposure.
The investigation also found that the diverted wheat was sold in the open market for незаконный profit, affecting the supply intended for beneficiaries under the government scheme.
Officials stated that strict action will be taken against those found responsible. The administration has intensified the probe and indicated that measures are being considered to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Discussions are also underway regarding the implementation of improved tracking systems and more transparent processes within the ration distribution framework.
