Bangladesh Violence: A concert by popular singer James has been cancelled due to violent incidents amidst growing violence and intolerance in Bangladesh. The concert was to be held in Faridpur district, approximately 120 kilometers from Dhaka. The event was organized on the occasion of a school anniversary, but sudden violence at the venue created a terrifying atmosphere. Reports indicate that at least 25 students were injured in the incident.
According to local media reports, the concert was underway at the school premises around 9 pm on Friday night. During this time, a mob attempted to enter the event venue and began throwing bricks and stones. Students and audience members present at the event protested, but the situation rapidly deteriorated. Ultimately, the organizers were forced to cancel the concert to control the situation.
Cultural Event Falls Victim to Violence
Eyewitnesses say the attack was so sudden and violent that people didn't even have time to react. Injured students were admitted to local hospitals. However, singer James and members of his band are reported to be safe. The administration is currently investigating the incident, but the attack has raised serious questions about the safety of artists and cultural activities in the country.
Bangladesh's renowned author and human rights activist Taslima Nasrin has bly reacted to the incident. She posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating that cultural centers and artists in Bangladesh are being consistently targeted.

Taslima Nasrin claimed that the country's renowned cultural center, Chayanat, was recently set on fire. Additionally, organizations promoting music, dance, poetry, and folk culture, such as Udichi, have also been attacked. She wrote, “Militants have now prevented renowned singer James from performing as well. This is not just an attack on a concert, but an attack on the cultural soul of Bangladesh.”
Foreign Artists Also Affected
Taslima Nasrin shared another concerning example, stating that a few days ago, Ustad Allauddin Khan's son, and renowned artist of the Maihar Gharana, Siraj Ali Khan, arrived in Dhaka. However, due to the deteriorating situation and insecurity in the country, he returned to India without performing.
Quoting him, Taslima said that they will not come to perform there until the safety of artists, music, and cultural institutions is ensured in Bangladesh. This statement is considered a serious warning for Bangladesh's cultural image.
