A tragic accident occurred in Jaunpur during Chhath Puja, where two devotees were severely burnt due to electrocution. This incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the pond located within the Ram-Janaki Bauliya Temple in Shahganj city.

To escape the rain, the devotees sought shelter under a tin shed constructed in the temple complex. There, due to an electric current flowing through a pipe, 18-year-old Raj Modanwal and 38-year-old Surendra Vishwakarma suffered severe burns. A stampede-like situation arose after the incident, but the police and healthcare workers promptly transported both individuals to the hospital. Given their critical condition, they have been transferred to the district hospital.

This incident raises serious questions regarding the safety of devotees, particularly during religious events. The local administration is investigating the matter.
