Former US NSA John Bolton Called Trump's Tariffs on India a Mistake. He advised PM Modi to Nominate Trump for the Nobel Prize Twice.
America: Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton has criticized Donald Trump's decision to impose heavy tariffs on India. He called it a mistake in bilateral relations and suggested that PM Modi nominate Trump for the Nobel Prize twice.
John Bolton's Attack on Trump
Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton has launched a scathing attack on President Donald Trump's anti-India moves. Bolton says the hefty tariffs imposed on India are a "mistake" for bilateral relations between the two countries. He also said that such a decision would damage trust between the US and India, and it would take time to repair.
Bolton specifically pointed out that the Trump administration has imposed tariffs of up to 50 percent on India. This includes an additional 25 percent tariff for buying oil from Russia. According to him, this decision is counterproductive and damaging to relations. He called it an inconsistent and unfair move in US foreign policy.
Trump Defended His Decision
President Trump defended his decision, saying that India is buying oil from Russia on a large scale and selling it in the open market for profit. He linked this move to the backdrop of the Ukraine war, saying that people are dying there, and that is why the US has to impose such tariffs.
Bolton also emphasized that China is also buying oil from Russia, but no such tariffs or secondary sanctions have been imposed on it. This clearly shows that India is being treated differently.
Impact of Tariffs on India
The tariffs have also affected India's economy. Bolton warned that this mistake would lead to a loss of trust between the two countries. He said it would take a long time to repair and could increase tensions in trade relations. According to him, the US should adopt a fair and balanced approach in its policies.
He also stated that in April, Trump launched a tariff war with China, in which rates were up to 145 percent. But later, Trump reduced the strictness with China. India is the only country facing such tariffs for buying oil from Russia.
Media and Trump's Attitude
Bolton also criticized Trump's attitude towards the media. He stated that Trump attacked the media for improperly covering his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Trump said that the media would criticize him even if he liberated Moscow and Leningrad under a deal with Russia.
According to Bolton, this is not right from the perspective of both US foreign policy and media management. He believes that such inconsistencies can weaken America's credibility internationally.
Suggestion to PM Modi
In a TV channel interview, John Bolton taunted Trump and suggested Prime Minister Narendra Modi should nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize twice. He gave the example of Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir. According to him, Pakistan handled Trump better and inspired the American president to act according to their interests.
