Kalyan Banerjee Regrets Supporting Mahua Moitra, Cites 'Lack of Courtesy'

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, criticizing Mahua Moitra, stated that supporting her in 2023 was a mistake. He apologized and said her recent statements lacked basic courtesy.

TMC: Senior Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee has now expressed regret for supporting Mahua Moitra in 2023. He said that at the time, he stood by her "out of faith, not compulsion," but now feels that this decision was wrong. Therefore, he says – "I apologize to the nation."

Sharp Retort to Mahua's Comment

Mahua Moitra had said in a podcast, "You don't wrestle with a pig... because the pig enjoys it and you get dirty." Banerjee condemned this as "devoid of basic courtesy." He stated that whether you are a man or a woman, accepting criticism in public life is the duty of every leader.

Demand for Civil Decorum in Dialogue

Kalyan clarified that calling criticism anti-woman is akin to degrading the decorum of dialogue. He spoke of public accountability and ethical conduct; but if individuals find these uncomfortable, calling the writer "anti-woman" is like hurting the spirit of democracy.

A Fresh Cycle of Rhetoric Within TMC

Mahua and Banerjee's paths have been clashing for some months. Rhetoric has intensified on social platforms and in Parliament. The TMC MP says that his support in 2023 was based on Mahua's statements at that time, but now her stance has completely changed.
