Cloud cover prevailed across most parts of Kanpur from Tuesday morning, bringing relief from intense sunlight and humid conditions. According to the Meteorological Department, light sunshine may appear during the day, while intermittent rainfall is also likely.
Meteorologists said the monsoon is expected to remain fully active in Kanpur and adjoining areas throughout the week. As a result, several locations may receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and b winds. Some places may also experience sudden heavy rainfall.
Morning temperatures remained below normal, providing relief from the heat. However, humidity may increase slightly if light sunshine emerges during the afternoon. Despite this, continued cloud movement is expected to keep weather conditions comparatively pleasant.
Authorities have directed the municipal corporation and concerned departments to monitor waterlogging-prone areas in view of the possibility of rainfall.
Following rainfall in recent days, several low-lying areas experienced waterlogging. The administration is on alert in anticipation of similar conditions.
The prevailing weather is considered favourable for farmers. Continuous moisture may benefit paddy, maize and other Kharif crops. Agricultural experts have advised farmers to maintain proper drainage arrangements in their fields to prevent crop damage in the event of excessive rainfall.
The Meteorological Department has urged people to exercise caution during thunderstorms. It has advised against standing in open fields, under trees or near electric poles, and recommended taking shelter in a safe place if heavy rainfall begins.
The traffic department has appealed to motorists to drive at reduced speeds during rainfall and maintain adequate distance from other vehicles. It said negligence on slippery roads could lead to serious accidents.
At present, weather conditions in Kanpur remain pleasant. If the forecast holds, intermittent rainfall is expected to continue throughout the week, keeping temperatures normal and providing relief from intense heat.
