Cloud cover persisted over Kanpur from Saturday morning, bringing relief from intense heat and b sunshine. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the possibility of rain accompanied by thunder during the day. However, the district has recorded around 10 percent below-normal rainfall so far this monsoon season.

With no sunshine since morning, weather conditions remained comparatively pleasant. Light cool winds and continuous cloud movement provided relief, although humidity persisted in several areas. If rainfall occurs by the afternoon or evening, temperatures are expected to decline further.

According to the Meteorological Department, monsoon activity is gradually intensifying. As a result, light to moderate rainfall is expected in Kanpur and adjoining districts. Some places may also witness showers accompanied by thunder, lightning and b winds.

According to official data, the district has so far received nearly 10 percent less rainfall than the normal average this season. Weather experts said that if monsoon activity remains active in the coming days, the rainfall deficit may be largely covered.

Agriculture experts said timely rainfall will benefit paddy, maize, pigeon pea and other kharif crops. Farmers in areas that have not yet received adequate rainfall continue to rely on irrigation. Continuous rainfall is also expected to accelerate farming activities.

The municipal corporation and district administration have been instructed to keep drainage systems operational in view of the possibility of rainfall, with the aim of reducing waterlogging during heavy rain. Special monitoring arrangements have been made for low-lying areas.

Health experts have advised people to take precautions during the changing weather. They said humid conditions and rainfall may increase the risk of viral infections, cold, flu and water-borne diseases. People have been advised to drink clean water, consume fresh food and change into dry clothes immediately after getting wet in the rain.

The Meteorological Department has appealed to residents to avoid open fields, tall trees and electric poles during thunderstorms. Motorists have also been advised to drive cautiously on slippery roads during rainfall.

Cloud movement continues over Kanpur and a rain alert remains in effect. While the change in weather has provided relief from the heat, attention remains focused on rainfall in the coming days as the district has so far recorded around 10 percent below-normal monsoon rainfall.
