Direct Benefit to 6 Million Women

According to data from the Karnataka Labour Department, approximately 6 million women work in various sectors across the state. Among them, 2.5 to 3 million women are in the corporate sector. The government will soon hold meetings with all employers to clarify the rules for the policy's implementation.

The objective of this initiative is to ensure that no organization disregards the order and that women receive their full entitlements. According to experts, this step is crucial for women's health, comfort, and productivity.

Rest During Periods is Essential, Committee Suggested Policy

Before implementing the policy, the government formed an 18-member committee, which provided a detailed report on the bodily changes women experience during periods and the necessity for rest. Sapna S, Head of the Law Department at Christ University, led this committee.

The committee stated that women require rest during periods due to problems such as abdominal pain, fatigue, mood swings, and weakness. Based on this report, the government consulted with departments and companies to finalize the policy.

Period Leave Also Implemented in Other States

Karnataka has now joined the list of states where women receive leave during their periods. In Bihar, women receive two period leaves every month, while Odisha recently announced one leave for female government employees.

This initiative is expected to improve the health and working lives of female employees in the state.
