The Indian Premier League 2026 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings at Eden Gardens was abandoned due to rain, resulting in both teams sharing one point each.
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 25 for 2 in 3.4 overs before rain interrupted play. Initially expected to resume, the rain intensified, forcing the umpires to call off the match after a prolonged inspection due to a wet outfield and water accumulation near the boundary.
Kolkata Knight Riders made a below-par start, losing two wickets for 25 runs in 3.4 overs when light rain began. Despite early indications of a possible restart, worsening conditions prevented further play.

As per regulations, efforts are made to complete a minimum of five overs per side, with a cut-off time set at 11:14 PM. However, the ground conditions did not improve sufficiently even after the rain stopped. Following discussions between the umpires and both team captains, the match was officially abandoned.
Both teams were awarded one point each. This marks Kolkata Knight Riders’ first point of the season, although they are yet to register a win.
Xavier Bartlett provided early breakthroughs for Punjab Kings, taking two wickets in the second over. He dismissed Finn Allen for 6 and Cameron Green for 4 on consecutive deliveries, with both catches taken by wicketkeeper Prabhsimran Singh.
Cameron Green’s performance remains under scrutiny. Acquired for ₹25.20 crore, he has yet to make a significant impact this season. Prior to this match, he scored 18 against Mumbai Indians and 2 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
