Zimbabwe defeated Bangladesh by 99 runs in the ODI Tri-Series. Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine steadied Zimbabwe’s innings with a 150-run partnership, while Brad Evans claimed four wickets to disrupt Bangladesh’s batting.
Zimbabwe came under pressure after early wickets
After winning the toss, Zimbabwe opted to bat first. However, Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed struck in the early overs, dismissing Brian Bennett, Ben Curran and Tafadzwa Tsiga within seven overs.
The three successive wickets left Zimbabwe at 24 for three, putting the team under pressure of being bowled out early. Bangladesh’s bowlers looked to build on their initial success, while Zimbabwe needed a substantial partnership to stop the collapse and stabilise the innings.
Taylor and Ervine add 150 runs
Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine took responsibility in the difficult situation. The pair first halted the fall of wickets before gradually increasing the scoring rate. Their 150-run partnership played an important role in taking Zimbabwe out of the early crisis.
Ervine fell seven runs short of his century. Despite missing the hundred, his innings made an important contribution to Zimbabwe reaching a competitive score.
Taskin Ahmed takes three wickets
Taskin Ahmed was Bangladesh’s most successful bowler, taking three wickets for 44 runs in 10 overs. His early spells had put Zimbabwe in significant difficulty, although Bangladesh were unable to break the partnership between Taylor and Ervine.
Saif Hassan and Shoriful Islam also claimed two wickets each. Despite their efforts, Zimbabwe’s middle order produced important partnerships to put the team in a b position.
Bangladesh make a fast start in the chase
Chasing Zimbabwe’s total, Bangladesh made a positive start. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim batted aggressively and attempted to put pressure on Zimbabwe’s bowlers.
Tanzid scored 46 runs from 38 balls, including nine fours and one six. His quick scoring kept Bangladesh in the contest. At the other end, Soumya Sarkar was dismissed for nine runs by Blessing Muzarabani.
The decisive moment came when Newman Nyamhuri dismissed Tanzid in the 10th over. His departure affected Bangladesh’s scoring rate and batting balance.
Brad Evans takes four wickets
After Tanzid’s dismissal, pressure increased on Bangladesh’s batters. The team needed partnerships to move closer to the target, but Zimbabwe’s bowlers did not allow them to score freely.
Brad Evans took four wickets for 45 runs, repeatedly striking against Bangladesh’s middle order. His bowling prevented Bangladesh from capitalising on their positive start.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers collectively contributed to restricting Bangladesh’s batting. Bangladesh eventually fell 99 runs short of the target, handing Zimbabwe the victory.
Match result
Zimbabwe recovered from losing three early wickets and defeated Bangladesh by 99 runs. Taylor and Ervine’s 150-run partnership strengthened Zimbabwe’s innings, while Evans’ four-wicket haul played an important role in securing the win.
Bangladesh made a positive start in the chase, but their batting lost momentum after Tanzid’s dismissal. Zimbabwe therefore completed the match with a 99-run victory.
