A labourer died after being hit by a trailer truck on the Bilaspur-Korba National Highway. Family members blocked the road demanding compensation, causing a 6-kilometer-long traffic jam. The situation normalized after compensation was provided.
Chhattisgarh: A tragic road accident in Bilaspur district, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday night created a tense situation in the area. A speeding trailer truck ran over a labourer who was crossing the Bilaspur-Korba National Highway. The accident was so severe that the labourer died on the spot. The incident occurred in the Pali police station area.
After the accident, b anger was seen among local people and family members. Enraged people blocked the National Highway demanding compensation and the arrest of the accused driver. Soon, long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the road, and traffic came to a standstill for about 6 kilometers.
Accident occurred while returning from work
The deceased has been identified as Milandas (55), a resident of Gram Kartala. He was returning home after finishing work on Sunday night, as usual. While crossing the National Highway between Ratanpur and Pali, a speeding trailer truck hit him.
Milandas died on the spot after coming under the wheels of the trailer. After the accident, the trailer driver left the vehicle on the road and fled. People nearby immediately informed the deceased's family and the police about the incident.
Family members insist on compensation
As soon as the news of the incident reached, the deceased's family and a large number of villagers reached the spot. They started demanding compensation, accusing the administration of negligence. Soon, people blocked the Bilaspur-Korba National Highway.
The jam caused a lot of trouble for passersby and vehicle drivers. Long lines of vehicles formed on both sides of the highway. Receiving the information, the Pali police reached the spot and tried to persuade the people, but the family members remained firm on their demands.
After a while, Ratanpur TI Nilesh Pandey and Additional SP Rural Archana Jha also reached the spot. The officers tried to calm the people down by talking to them, but the people were not ready to remove the jam without compensation.
Jam cleared after compensation
Seeing the deteriorating situation, the administration called revenue officials to the spot. The officials assured the deceased's family of proper compensation and action against the accused driver. After that, the family members and villagers agreed to remove the jam after the compensation amount was paid.
After several hours, the road blockade ended, after which the police started the work of restoring traffic. The police team, with the help of local people, removed the body from the road and sent it to the hospital for a post-mortem.
Search for the absconding driver continues
Additional SP Rural Archana Jha said that a trailer truck had crushed a person crossing the National Highway, causing his death. Enraged people blocked the road demanding compensation, which was ended after persuasion by the administration.
The police have registered a case against the accused trailer driver. Currently, the driver is absconding and is being searched for. Police say that the accused will be arrested soon and legal action will be taken.
