Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh: A terrifying incident unfolded in Oripurwa village (Chafaria) of Bahraich district on Tuesday afternoon when a leopard attacked a teenage girl who was sitting in the courtyard of her home.
At the time of the incident, the girl, identified as Sonam by her family, was sitting in her home's courtyard when the animal suddenly emerged from the sugarcane fields and attacked her. Hearing the screams of people and family members, the leopard fled back into the fields, leaving the injured girl behind.
Medical examination revealed that the girl sustained severe and deep wounds to her neck and throat in the attack. After receiving first aid, she was taken to the PHC Sujauli, from where doctors referred her to the CHC Mihipurwa for better treatment. Her condition remains critical.
Local villagers are now living in fear as the area has a history of human-wildlife conflict. Several incidents of attacks by wild animals have been reported in various places around Bahraich in recent months, raising concerns about people's safety.
Forest department officials have stated that they are monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to prevent further incidents.
