Lucknow district authorities have launched a citywide enforcement drive over building compliance and fire safety regulations after a case emerged involving the alleged use of the approved roof area at Renaissance Hotel as a bar. The administration has initiated a comprehensive inspection covering 122 hotels, banquet halls and guest houses. Establishments found violating regulations are being prepared for sealing, while the role of officials who allegedly overlooked irregularities during construction or operations will also be examined.
During recent inspections in Lucknow, officials found that some establishments allegedly differed from their approved building plans in terms of construction or usage. The case involving Renaissance Hotel prompted the administration to extend inspections to other commercial establishments. Joint teams from the concerned departments subsequently began reviewing records of hotels, banquet halls and guest houses across different parts of the city.
The inspection is examining building approvals, changes in land use, Fire Department No Objection Certificates (NOCs), parking arrangements, emergency exits, structural safety and other mandatory documents. Establishments where serious irregularities are identified will face legal action, including sealing. The administration stated that the action will be carried out strictly in accordance with rules and in an impartial manner.
According to sources, the investigation will not remain limited to hotel operators. If it is found that any official permitted construction or operations contrary to regulations or ignored irregularities, departmental and legal action may also be initiated against them. As a result, the role of certain officials has also been brought under investigation.
The administration stated that the objective of the campaign is not to target any particular establishment but to ensure strict compliance with building safety standards and fire safety regulations across the city. In view of incidents involving fires and other accidents in hotels and commercial buildings in different parts of the country in recent years, authorities said special attention is being given to compliance with safety standards.
Hotel and banquet operators have been directed to keep all licences, NOCs and building-related documents updated. Establishments where minor deficiencies are found may be given an opportunity to rectify them in accordance with regulations, while immediate action will be taken in cases involving serious violations.
Administrative officials stated that no commercial establishment operating in violation of regulations will be exempt from action. The joint inspection campaign will continue, and additional establishments may also be inspected if required. Authorities said public safety remains the highest priority. The case that began with Renaissance Hotel has led to a broader review of building and fire safety standards across Lucknow. A total of 122 hotels, banquet halls and guest houses are under scrutiny, and further action will be determined based on the findings of the investigation. The inquiry into the role of officials is also expected to determine responsibility where any regulatory violations are found.
