Residents of Janakipuram First in Lucknow have alleged that the area's sewerage system has deteriorated, with overflowing sewers, wastewater flowing onto roads from drains, and persistent waterlogging disrupting daily life. They said repeated complaints have failed to result in a permanent solution.

According to local residents, sewage water remains stagnant on roads for several days, causing foul odour and making it difficult for pedestrians to move through the area. They said the situation worsens during rainfall, when sewage mixes with rainwater and inundates the locality. Schoolchildren, elderly residents and two-wheeler riders are among those most affected.

Residents alleged that multiple written and online complaints were submitted to the Municipal Corporation and the Jal Kal Department, but only routine formalities were carried out. They claimed that officials or employees briefly visit the site and submit reports stating that the work has been completed without resolving the problem. According to residents, this has allowed the issue to persist.

The local councillor also questioned the functioning of the concerned authorities. The councillor said the relevant department had been informed about the issue on several occasions but the expected action had not been taken. The councillor alleged that timely cleaning and repair of the sewer line could have prevented the current situation and called on senior officials to investigate the matter and take action against the employees found responsible.

Residents said blocked sewers have caused wastewater to reach the entrances of homes, leading to an increase in mosquitoes and raising the risk of dengue, malaria and other infectious diseases. They also said foul odour has made it difficult to keep doors and windows open. Local traders stated that waterlogging has affected customer movement.

Residents have demanded a technical inspection of the sewer network across the area and immediate repairs wherever pipelines are found to be damaged. They also called for regular cleaning of drains and sewers to prevent similar problems in the future.

Residents of Janakipuram First said they are awaiting a permanent solution and maintained that paperwork alone will not resolve the issue. Local residents and elected representatives have urged the concerned department to restore the sewerage system at the earliest to address sanitation, waterlogging and related public health concerns.
