Following the deaths of 15 people in a major fire at a building in Sector D of Aliganj, Lucknow, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is set to begin its inquiry on Tuesday. The administration has accelerated the investigation process after the incident, and the SIT constituted at the government level is expected to inspect the site and examine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
The SIT will conduct a detailed inspection of the building and investigate the cause of the fire, existing safety arrangements, and any possible negligence. According to officials, the inquiry will include a review of the building’s structure, the availability of fire safety equipment, and emergency exit arrangements.
The report prepared by the SIT will be submitted to the Chief Minister. Based on the findings, responsibility for the incident and any potential lapses will be determined, and legal action may be initiated against those found accountable. The administration has stated that every aspect of the incident will be examined impartially.
LDA Committee to Review Safety Compliance
Considering the seriousness of the incident, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has also formed a separate committee to conduct an inquiry. The committee will examine building-related documents, approved plans, and compliance with safety standards. Officials will also verify whether activities being conducted in the building were in accordance with prescribed regulations.
According to preliminary information, the investigation team will assess whether adequate arrangements were in place to evacuate people safely after the fire broke out. It will also examine compliance with fire safety regulations. If evidence of negligence or violations is found, action may be taken against the individuals and institutions concerned.
Families Demand Accountability After Fire
The fire, which occurred on Monday, claimed 15 lives and also resulted in the deaths of several pet dogs and cats. Following the incident, relatives of the deceased and local residents gathered at the post-mortem facility and the site of the fire until late at night.
Family members of the victims have demanded strict punishment for those responsible. They have also urged the administration to inspect other institutions across the city that may be operating without adhering to safety regulations, including coaching centres, commercial establishments, and multi-storey buildings, and called for regular safety audits.
Following the incident, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, and several senior officials visited the site to assess the situation. Police and fire department teams remain deployed in the area. The administration has stated that strict action will be ensured against those responsible once the investigation report is submitted.
