Starlink Service in Maharashtra for the First Time

Maharashtra has now become the first state in India where Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service will be launched. The state government announced this partnership by signing an LOI (Letter of Intent) with Starlink. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that this service will be used to provide internet to government institutions and enhance connectivity in remote rural areas. The service will also be implemented in backward districts like Nandurbar, Gadchiroli, Dharashiv, and Washim.

This step will strengthen Maharashtra's Digital India Mission and position the state as a leader in satellite-enabled digital infrastructure. This government decision is significant in extending internet access to all regions of India.

Starlink's Expansion Plan in India

Starlink plans to build 9 gateway earth stations in India. These stations will be located in major cities such as Mumbai, Chandigarh, Noida, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Lucknow. The objective is to provide high-speed internet facilities to rural and remote areas. This will accelerate internet penetration and reduce the digital divide.

Elon Musk's Starlink service is designed to deliver high-speed internet even to remote areas. This satellite-based internet service is expected to improve education, healthcare, and government services. The expansion of digital services in rural areas will also accelerate local development.

Regulatory Approval and Next Steps

Chief Minister Fadnavis also clarified that the operation of Starlink's service will be subject to compliance approval from the Department of Telecommunications and other necessary regulatory permissions. Furthermore, both the government and Starlink will jointly implement this plan in a phased manner.

With Starlink's entry into Maharashtra, the state can reach new heights in the Digital India Mission. This step will prove crucial in providing high-speed internet to remote areas of the country and strengthening digital infrastructure.
