The Maharashtra government has made the complete rendition of 'Vande Mataram' mandatory in all schools. A special campaign and exhibition will be organized from October 31 to November 7, where students will be educated about the song's history and national significance.
Maharashtra: The Maharashtra government has made the complete rendition of the national song 'Vande Mataram' mandatory in all schools across the state. This decision has been taken to commemorate 150 years since the composition of this historic song by the late Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Until now, most schools only sang the first two stanzas of 'Vande Mataram', but now the entire song will be sung by students and teachers.
Special Campaign from October 31 to November 7
The government has issued directives that a campaign for the complete rendition of 'Vande Mataram' will be conducted in all schools across the state from October 31, 2025, to November 7, 2025. During this period, special programs will be organized in schools, and children will be educated about the historical significance of this national song. According to officials, this step aims to awaken a sense of national pride among students and to impart knowledge of national history.

Organization of Exhibitions in Schools
The government has also directed that exhibitions related to the history and composition of 'Vande Mataram' be organized in schools. These exhibitions will inform students about the song's background, the contribution of its composer Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, and the song's significance. This will raise students' awareness of nationalism and patriotism.
Compliance with Order Mandatory for Educational Institutions
The government has sent a reference letter regarding this decision to Maharashtra's Education Department, instructing all educational institutions to ensure compliance with the order. Department officials stated that during this period, both activities – the complete rendition of 'Vande Mataram' and the exhibition – will be mandatory in schools.
