Following the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election results, in which the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) suffered a major defeat, party chief and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that the party would be removed from power at the Centre in the future.
The statement came days after the election results, during a party meeting held in Kolkata, where Mamata Banerjee claimed that the BJP would eventually be removed from power in New Delhi.
During a meeting with party legislators and senior leaders at her residence in Kalighat, Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee said that the All India Trinamool Congress would continue its political struggle and work to unite opposition forces against the BJP.
In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party recorded a historic performance, winning 207 seats. The result brought an end to nearly 15 years of All India Trinamool Congress rule in the state, while the TMC was reduced to 80 seats. Analysts said the outcome was being viewed as an indication of a significant shift in West Bengal politics.
During the meeting, Mamata Banerjee said that despite the electoral defeat, her party would continue its struggle. She accused the BJP of misusing democratic institutions and exerting political pressure. She said a major change would be seen in national politics in the future and asserted that the BJP would be removed from power in New Delhi.

Mamata Banerjee did not disclose any specific strategy or opposition alliance during the meeting. However, her remarks are being viewed as preparations for the political contest ahead of the 2029 general elections.
At the meeting, All India Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee also adopted a b position against the BJP. He said political pressure, actions by investigative agencies, or legal notices would not force them to retreat. Abhishek Banerjee stated that his party’s fight against the BJP would continue regardless of circumstances.
TMC leaders also targeted current West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. According to party sources, Abhishek Banerjee alleged that leaders facing allegations linked to corruption had been brought to power in the state. The BJP, however, dismissed the allegations as political rhetoric.
Following the West Bengal election results, reports of political violence and clashes emerged from several parts of the state. Allegations were made regarding confrontations between workers of both parties in Kolkata, Howrah and other districts. The All India Trinamool Congress claimed that several of its workers and party offices had been targeted.
