Political turmoil has intensified over the statement made by Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, regarding OBCs (Other Backward Classes). Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo and former Chief Minister Mayawati has also launched a scathing attack regarding this statement.
UP Politics: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has reacted sharply to the statement made by Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, regarding the OBC category. Attacking both Congress and NDA, she said that their politics is one of “something in the heart, something on the tongue.”
Mayawati also alleged that parties like Congress, BJP, and Samajwadi Party have always suppressed the rights of Dalits, tribals, and backward classes (OBC), and now they are talking about these classes only because of their hunger for power.
Mayawati's Statement: Discrepancy between Congress's Words and Deeds
Mayawati issued a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) stating that the Congress party has always deceived the OBC, SC, and ST communities. She wrote: It is not new for the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha to acknowledge that the vast OBC community of the country has not received its constitutional rights. The politics of Congress is a selfish politics of something in the heart, something on the tongue.
The BSP supremo also accused the Congress of not awarding Bharat Ratna to the architect of the Constitution, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. She wrote: Not giving reservation to OBCs for almost 40 years after the country's independence, not honoring Dr. Ambedkar with Bharat Ratna, and keeping a huge backlog in government jobs—these are all examples of the casteist mindset of the Congress.
Targeted NDA as well
Mayawati did not spare the BJP and NDA either. She said that currently, while in power, the BJP is also displaying the same ‘double standard’ politics that the Congress did for decades. The conduct of NDA is also as duplicitous and misleading as that of Congress. After coming to power, they remember the Bahujans, but the intention and policy remain flawed.
Mayawati further wrote that casteist parties like Congress, BJP, and Samajwadi Party have always tried to keep the Bahujan community politically and economically enslaved. She alleged that all of them together have made the reservation ineffective. All these casteist parties, together, have made the SC, ST, and OBC reservation inactive on some pretext or the other. These classes have only been misled, not given their rights.
Called BSP the ‘Iron Guarantee’ of Bahujans, Taunted Congress and SP
Former Chief Minister Mayawati described BSP as the true well-wisher party of these classes and claimed that whenever BSP has come to power, it has done justice to Dalits, backward classes, and the poor. She said: BSP has always been the true well-wisher of the Bahujan community. When our government was in UP, there was a full guarantee of the safety, respect, and welfare of the poor, oppressed, and Bahujans of all communities. Therefore, the welfare of the Bahujan community lies only in the iron guarantee of BSP.
Mayawati also warned Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) not to try to mislead the OBC community. She said that by falling for the words of these parties, the Dalit, tribal, and backward classes will be deprived of their rights. Especially, the people of Dalit, tribal, and OBC communities should not be misled by opposition parties like Congress, SP, etc. This is better for their happiness, peace, and prosperity.
