Meta is testing a new subscription model for Instagram, named Instagram Plus, offering features such as anonymous story viewing, advanced story controls, and exclusive interaction tools. The service is currently in trial in select countries and may be launched in other markets, including India, based on its performance.
Instagram Plus is currently being tested with a limited group of users in Mexico, Japan, and the Philippines. The feature remains restricted in availability, with Meta expected to determine its broader rollout strategy based on user response and technical performance.
The company typically tests new features in smaller markets to assess user behaviour and system functionality. If the model meets expectations, it may be introduced globally, with countries such as India, which have large user bases, likely to be prioritised.
One of the key features of the subscription is Anonymous Story View, which allows users to view stories without revealing their identity. At present, Instagram displays a complete list of viewers for each story, but this feature introduces an additional privacy option.

Users will also be able to see how many times their stories have been rewatched. In addition, the subscription will offer the ability to create multiple audience lists, extending beyond the existing Close Friends feature.
Subscribers will have the option to extend the duration of their stories beyond the standard 24-hour limit, allowing content to remain accessible for longer periods. There will also be a feature to highlight one story per week, placing it at the top for increased visibility.
To enhance user interaction, Instagram Plus will include animated reactions such as Superlikes and a search function within the story viewer list, enabling users to identify specific viewers more easily.
Instagram Plus is positioned separately from the Meta Verified plan. While the Verified plan is primarily aimed at creators and business users, Instagram Plus is designed for general users.
According to initial reports, the subscription may be priced between Rs 100 and Rs 200 per month. However, there has been no official announcement regarding final pricing or launch timelines in India.
