According to political analysts, the Falta by-election result is being regarded as significant in several respects. They stated that this was the first instance since the formation of the All India Trinamool Congress in which the party’s candidate finished fourth in an election. They also noted that, since the fall of the Left Front government in West Bengal in 2011, this was the first time an All India Trinamool Congress candidate failed to retain a deposit in an Assembly election.
Political experts said the result had triggered fresh debate in the state and viewed it as an indication of a reorganisation of opposition politics in West Bengal and the growing influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
