The National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra has been shut indefinitely from April 18 after four students died by suicide within a two-month period. The closure has halted all academic operations at the institute.
The situation on campus remains tense following the incidents, with students facing uncertainty over academic schedules and institutional functioning.
Third-year examinations, originally scheduled to begin on May 5–6, have been postponed and are now expected to be conducted in August. The delay has disrupted the academic calendar, leaving students uncertain about timelines and progression.

The postponement has also created concerns among third-year students regarding their academic continuity and future plans.
The delay in examinations is expected to affect the campus placement schedule, which is typically conducted at the end of July. Approximately 1,000 students participate in the placement process each year for job and internship opportunities.
Students have raised concerns that delayed examinations may prevent them from participating in recruitment processes conducted by companies, increasing uncertainty about employment prospects.
Students have been demanding that examinations be conducted on time and have proposed both offline and online modes for conducting them. They have also sought administrative engagement on the issue.
An audio recording, purportedly featuring a conversation between a female official and students, has circulated on social media. The institute’s Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. Gyan Bhushan, stated that efforts are being made to conduct examinations at the earliest, given the circumstances.
