Almora's Soban Singh Jeena Government Institute of Medical Sciences has received conditional renewal from the National Medical Commission (NMC) for 100 MBBS seats for the 2026-27 academic session. The final approval will depend on a future inspection and the institution addressing deficiencies related to infrastructure and faculty within the stipulated timeframe.

The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission has granted conditional renewal for 100 MBBS seats at the institute, allowing the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session to proceed for the time being.

The Commission clarified that the approval is not final. The institution's status will be determined after a future physical, virtual, or hybrid inspection conducted by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).

According to the Letter of Renewal (LOR) issued by the NMC, the medical college administration must rectify all identified deficiencies within 45 days. These include infrastructure, faculty availability, hospital clinical facilities, and other standards related to medical education.

The Commission stated that if the required improvements are not completed within the stipulated period or deficiencies are found during the subsequent inspection, action may be taken under the relevant provisions of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019. The order also directs the institution to ensure compliance with all prescribed standards.

The order, issued by the Deputy Secretary of the NMC with the approval of the competent authority, has been communicated to the medical college administration. The institution is now required to complete all necessary improvements within the prescribed timeline.

The principal of the medical college stated that the conditional renewal will allow the admission process for 100 MBBS seats for the 2026-27 academic session to move forward. However, the final recognition will depend on the report of the upcoming inspection. The college administration is taking the necessary steps to ensure faculty availability, strengthen hospital facilities, and meet other academic standards within the stipulated period.

The decision allows the admission process for students seeking medical education in the 2026-27 academic session to proceed for now. If the institution meets all prescribed standards during the upcoming inspection, recognition for the 100 MBBS seats will continue on a permanent basis.
