The administration in Noida has initiated the preparation of a comprehensive master plan for truck movement in view of the increasing number of heavy vehicles and rising traffic congestion in the city. As part of the exercise, a special seven-day survey has been launched to study truck routes, operating timings, vehicle volume, and their impact on traffic.

According to officials from the authority and the traffic department, the survey will identify routes experiencing the highest truck traffic and areas where heavy vehicles are contributing to congestion and pollution. Based on the findings, separate routes, time restrictions, and other management measures for trucks may be determined.

Heavy vehicles have been slowing traffic movement on several key city roads during morning and evening hours. This has led to traffic congestion and increased air pollution. The administration believes that scientifically regulating truck movement could help address these issues.

The survey will collect data on the number of trucks, their movement timings, major freight hubs, and sensitive traffic points. It will also assess areas where alternative routes for heavy vehicles can be developed.

Officials said that after the master plan is prepared, measures such as changes in truck entry and exit timings, dedicated corridors, and parking arrangements may be introduced. These steps are expected to reduce pressure on city roads.

Local residents and vehicle drivers have welcomed the initiative. They said that better regulation of truck movement could help reduce traffic congestion in the city and improve pollution levels.

The survey work has already commenced, and data will be collected from various locations over the next seven days. A report will then be prepared and submitted to the administration, which may use it to implement a new master plan for truck movement in Noida.
