Nushrratt Bharuccha Highlights Gender Inequality in Bollywood

The issue of equality between heroes and heroines in Bollywood has always been a topic of discussion — whether it's about the salary gap, screen space, or promotion and priority. Several actresses have raised their voices against this inequality from time to time.

Nushrratt Bharuccha: Bollywood actress Nushrratt Bharuccha has recently made a big statement regarding the discrimination between heroes and heroines in the film industry. Nushrratt revealed how male actors are given more priority than female actors on film sets — whether it's about vanity vans or career opportunities. Her statement has once again brought the issue of Gender Equality in Bollywood to the center stage.

Two Decades of Experience, Nushrratt Now Speaks Openly

Having worked in Hindi cinema for nearly two decades, Nushrratt Bharuccha has made a name for herself with hit films like 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama', 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety', and 'Dream Girl'. She revealed that the treatment of actresses on film sets is still not entirely equal. Nushrratt said, "Many times it has happened that I did not like the washroom facility in my vanity van, so I asked – can I use the hero's vanity van for 5 minutes? Because he was not even present on the set. His washroom was better than mine."

However, she also added that she did not argue about it at that time because she made a promise to herself — I will take myself to a point where I get these things automatically.

Hero Gets Projects Immediately After a Hit, Heroine Has to Wait

Nushrratt also questioned the inequality regarding opportunities between male and female actors in the industry. She said: As soon as a boy gives a hit — whether he is an insider or an outsider — he immediately gets offered 4-5 new projects. But it is not that easy for girls. They have to struggle a lot more.

She says that even after a female artist gives a hit, it takes time to get opportunities for the future, while male artists are put on the 'fast-track'.

Old Debate, New Voice in the Film Industry

Nushrratt's statement has come at a time when many women in the industry have previously raised their voices against gender pay gap and discriminatory behavior. Earlier, actresses like Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, and Taapsee Pannu have also spoken on this subject. Nushrratt's perspective makes it clear that there is a need for change in Bollywood — not only on screen but also in the behavior behind the screen.

However, while sharing her experiences, Nushrratt prioritized a positive outlook instead of complaining. She said that she wants to make herself b so that she does not have to depend on others for any kind of facility in the future. "I am working hard so that I get these things automatically. I know that one day I will reach there."
