The Patna High Court has directed the Congress to immediately remove the derogatory AI video of PM Modi and his late mother from social media. The court clarified that content against someone's reputation is unacceptable.

New Delhi: The Patna High Court recently issued a stern directive to the Congress party. The court ordered the immediate removal of a derogatory AI video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi, from social media platforms. This video was posted on the official X handle of Bihar Congress on September 10.

What the video depicted

This AI-generated video depicted the Prime Minister's mother in a dream sequence with PM Modi. The video showed Heeraben Modi admonishing her son for misusing her name for political gain. In one scene, a person resembling the Prime Minister is shown lying in bed saying, "Today's votes have been stolen, now sleep well." Following this, Heeraben Modi appears in the video and offers him advice.

The video was marked as AI-generated. However, the BJP had termed it as derogatory and abhorrent. They stated that the video insulted the Prime Minister and his mother and should be removed from social media immediately.

Patna High Court's stance

The Patna High Court adopted a strict stance during the hearing. The court issued a clear directive for the immediate removal of this video from all social media platforms. The court stated that publishing such content against the dignity of any individual, including the Prime Minister and his family, is inappropriate and illegal.

The court also emphasized that the use of AI technology to harm someone's reputation can constitute a legal offense. This decision is significant regarding responsibility and content moderation on digital platforms.
