Patna witnessed continuous heavy rainfall from late Saturday night until Sunday morning, leading to waterlogging in several parts of the city. Water accumulated in low-lying areas, major roads and multiple residential neighbourhoods, causing disruption to public movement. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for b winds, rain and lightning in Patna and several districts of Bihar today.
The Municipal Corporation Commissioner inspected waterlogged areas from early morning to assess the situation. Officials were directed to expedite water drainage operations.
The Municipal Corporation's Quick Response Team (QRT), along with pumping sets and sanitation workers, has been carrying out continuous water drainage operations at multiple locations across the city.
Rainfall slowed traffic movement on several major roads. Waterlogging created difficulties for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians at multiple locations. Overflowing drains and slow drainage resulted in water remaining stagnant in some areas for an extended period.
Municipal Corporation officials said additional pumps have been installed in sensitive areas, while the control room is continuously monitoring the situation. Teams are being dispatched immediately to locations where complaints of waterlogging are received.
According to the Meteorological Department, Patna and adjoining districts may experience winds of 40 to 60 kmph, thunderstorms accompanied by rain, and heavy rainfall at isolated places today. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather, stay away from trees and weak electricity poles, and follow the Meteorological Department's advisories.
The administration has placed the Disaster Management Department, Municipal Corporation, Electricity Department and Health Department on alert mode. The control room is operating round the clock to respond to any emergency and is continuously monitoring the rainfall situation.
Municipal Corporation teams are currently engaged in draining water from affected areas. The administration said efforts to remove water from most affected locations will be intensified after the rain subsides so that normal public life can be restored as soon as possible.
