The Press Council of India (PCI) has invited applications for three Assistant Section Officer (ASO) posts under Group B, Level-06. Candidates with a graduation degree from any recognised university are eligible to apply. The age limit is 20 to 30 years. Preference will be given to candidates holding a postgraduate degree, a law degree, or a degree or diploma in journalism or mass communication. Candidates applying for the Assistant Section Officer post must be between 20 and 30 years of age. Relaxation in the upper age limit will be provided according to the rules of the Government of India.
The recruitment was earlier notified on May 18, 2024. Under that recruitment, the examination was conducted on May 4, 2025, but the entire recruitment process was cancelled in June 2025. The Press Council of India has now invited applications afresh. Candidates who had applied under the earlier advertisement and received an admit card for the examination may also apply again. Such candidates will be exempted from the examination fee on providing their previous roll number.
Selection for the Assistant Section Officer post will be based on two stages of a written examination. Tier-I will be an objective-type examination. It will include 50 questions each from General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Mathematical Abilities/Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. Candidates will have 150 minutes to complete the examination, which will carry negative marking of 0.25 marks. Candidates will be required to secure the prescribed qualifying marks in each section.
Tier-II will be a descriptive and qualifying examination. Questions will be related to essay, letter and application writing in Hindi and English. The examination will carry 100 marks and candidates will have 60 minutes to complete it. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of performance in both stages.
The application fee for the recruitment is ₹100. SC, ST, women, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates are exempted from paying the application fee. The fee must be paid through a demand draft drawn in favour of the Secretary, Press Council of India.
