Perplexity's AI Video Generator on X Sparks Creativity and Misinformation Concerns

Perplexity's AI Video Generator on X Sparks Creativity and Misinformation Concerns

Perplexity's new feature now allows X users to create AI videos for free, boosting creativity but also raising concerns about the spread of misinformation.

Perplexity: A revolutionary feature has been added to AI technology. AI search startup Perplexity has enhanced its chatbot to generate video clips on X (formerly Twitter) with audio and visuals based solely on text prompts. This launch has not only started a new trend on the social media platform but also sparked a debate about content moderation.

What's the new feature?

Perplexity has activated its bot, named ‘Ask Perplexity,’ on X. It generates videos (including audio) up to 8 seconds long based on user text prompts. This includes dialogue, visuals, and voiceovers. Users simply need to tag @AskPerplexity on X with a short prompt—for example, 'Prime Minister launching a moon mission in 2050'—and receive a video clip within minutes.

How to create a video?

  • Go to X (Twitter) and tag @AskPerplexity.
  • Provide a short and clear prompt for the video in that tweet.
  • Perplexity's bot will reply to the tweet with the video clip.
  • The video will include audio, script, and visuals.

This service is free, but currently, not all users receive a response every time due to high demand on the bot.

Why is AskPerplexity trending on X?

Elon Musk's platform X is already flooded with chatbots and AI-based tools. However, AskPerplexity's video feature brings a unique thrill to this space. Many users consider it a new source of fun and entertainment, while some experts are concerned about potentially misleading content.

Content moderation on X has been a recurring question. Now, anyone can create a video about any famous personality, increasing the likelihood of fake news and deepfake videos. However, Perplexity claims to have implemented robust content filtering measures to prevent misuse.

Grok vs. AskPerplexity: The AI Bot Battle

AskPerplexity and Grok are two of the most discussed chatbots on X. Grok, a bot from Elon Musk's xAI company, currently provides only text-based responses. Perplexity, however, now generates videos, giving it a significant advantage.

This competition in the AI space could benefit users, but X needs to strengthen its moderation policies amidst this rivalry.

Fictional videos trending on X

With Perplexity's video feature, people on X have given wings to their imaginations. Many users have started creating imaginative videos based on politicians, Hollywood celebrities, and global leaders. Some of these videos had unusual or bizarre themes and tones.

Perplexity's official account tweeted humorously, "I've read all your video requests DMs… some of you really need help!"

This shows how engaging the feature is for users, but also highlights its limitations and the need for monitoring.

AskPerplexity now available on WhatsApp

Perplexity isn't limited to X. Since April 2025, the company has also launched its service on WhatsApp. Now users can ask Perplexity AI questions directly on WhatsApp without downloading any separate app.

How to use:

  • Save this number in your phone: +1 (833) 436-3285
  • Start a chat on WhatsApp by typing 'Hi'.
