Police in Patna have recovered 40 crude bombs during a late-night raid at a city hostel and arrested seven students in connection with the seizure. Preliminary investigation indicates the incident is linked to an ongoing rivalry among student groups, with plans allegedly aimed at creating fear in the state capital.
Police sources said they received confidential information about suspicious activities by certain students inside the hostel and preparations for a major incident. Acting on the tip-off, a special police team conducted a raid at the hostel late at night. During the search, a large number of crude bombs were recovered from a room, where they were stored in a highly dangerous condition. Officials said they were surprised by both the quantity and the nature of the explosives.
Investigators said all the arrested students are associated with different groups and had been involved in prolonged tension over dominance within the hostel and surrounding areas. Police said the crude bombs were allegedly procured as part of a conspiracy to intimidate rival groups, assert influence, and spread fear in the capital. Authorities stated that timely action may have prevented a serious incident that could have resulted in significant loss of life and property.
During questioning, police are also trying to determine the source of the crude bombs. Investigators are examining whether any external individuals or organised groups assisted in procuring or assembling the explosives, and whether the plot has links beyond the city or to any criminal network.
The case has raised questions about hostel administration and security arrangements. Police are questioning hostel management over how such a large quantity of explosive material was stored inside the premises and why student activities were not monitored in time.
Following the incident, police increased patrolling in the surrounding areas and intensified checks at other hostels and sensitive locations. Officials said any attempt to disrupt law and order in the capital will not be tolerated and that strict legal action will be taken against all those involved.
